The Five Oscars Inn is situated in Via Milano, a stone's throw from Via Nazionale which was formerly named Via Pia in honour of Pope Pius IX who had the road built to connect the Termini railway station to the centre of the City. The road was completed and widened at the end of the eighteen hundreds, within the sphere of the many works carried out during the Italian Unification for the new Rome, the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. This is why the roads leading off are named after the most important Italian cities (Torino - Turin, Firenze - Florence, Napoli - Naples, Venezia - Venice, Milano - Milan …)

The building boom of the first forty years of the Kingdom of Italy and the fascist demolition luckily did not touch the Suburra area, which is just a few yards from Via Milano, greatly appreciated by tourists, almost as much as Trastevere, for its picturesque quality.

From this point of view, the area between Via Nazionale and Via Cavour (Via del Boschetto, Via dei Serpenti, Via Panisperna and Via Baccina) is particularly appreciated with increasing numbers of visitors in recent years: with its humble dwellings, narrow streets, craftsmen's workshops and tiny shops, it seems to have conserved the characteristics of Rome in the eighteen hundreds. The area is full of restaurants, bars and various eating-meeting places, gravitating around Piazzetta della Madonna dei Monti, near the church of the same name.

Walking through these little streets, you reach the Archaeological Park which stretches along Via dei Fori Imperiali and which includes the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Forum of Nerva, and Trajan's Forum and Markets. On the opposite side, crossing Via Nazionale and continuing along Via del Traforo, a few minutes' walk will take you to the Trevi Fountain and Piazza di Spagna.
